Kondansha. 700¥ - A movie was made, Mermaid Forest, which includes some of the information from the first story. USA Printings and Adaptations: - Viz Communications published "A Mermaid Never Smiles" in Animerica's first "Volume" in 1992. There were four issues total: # Vol. 1, No. 1 | # Vol. 1, No. 2 | # Vol. 1, No. 3 | # Vol. 1, No. 4 There are no color pictures. - Viz Communications published "The Village of the Fighting Fish" in Animerica's first "Volume" in 1992. There were five issues total: # Vol. 1, No. 5 | # Vol. 1, No. 6 | # Vol. 1, No. 7 | # Vol. 1, No. 8 | # Vol. 1, No. 9 There are no color pictures. - Viz Communications also published a comic-book edition of Mermaid Forest (the story, not the compilation book), and there were four individual issues published, each with a watercolored cover of Takahashi's artwork. - Viz Communications also published a compliation book entitled Mermaid Forest which the complete stories, "A Mermaid Never Smiles", "The Village of the Fighting Fish", and "Mermaid Forest".
